'Rock Star: Supernova' Winner LUKAS ROSSI: 'I Don't Have To Play Cover Songs Anymore'
September 17, 2006Despite speculation that "Rock Star: Supernova" singer Lukas Rossi had the job from early on, guitarist Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) told AOL Music it really did come down to the final two of Rossi and Dilana Robichaux.
"I was always kind of leaning towards Lukas," Gilby told AOL Music, "but I could not ignore the fan reactions that Dilana got. After two or three weeks I started going, 'This would be so bad-ass for Dilana to front the band.'
"But when Lukas came up and sang one of our originals, it just felt so natural to me. In my mind, I was really undecided up until the very end."
Rossi says while he believed he could be the guy all along, his nerves caught up with him at the end. "That was probably the only time I felt nervous, when it came down to two of us."
With the band's debut single, "Be Yourself & 5 Other Cliches", hitting radio next week, the album out Nov. 21 and a tour kicking off in Vegas on New Year's Eve, there won't be much time to bask in his win. That suits Rossi fine: "I can't wait to get in the studio. That's what I'm here for," he said.
And with the show having come to an end, how excited is he to be moving on? "Oh, man, it's the best feeling," he said. "I don't have to play cover songs anymore, thank God."
